At first I was recomendng 600's to all newbies but now I say ride what you can afford cause ultimately that's what's gonna happen anyway. And just cause someone buys a liter bike over a smaller one doesn't mean they're gonna splat. My first ride was a 1979 Suzuki GS 1000 old school, but plenty of power to kill myself but here I am. _________________ Shiny side up!!!! |

Once again if you feel comfy on a 250 get a 600 you won't be tryin to upgrade so fast. _________________ Shiny side up!!!! |

What's up Ginseng, I just saw your post. Well, to answer your question, it's really going to come down to what you can afford. To me it has nothing to do with what you can handle, because you, the rider will do what you want the bike to do. For example, years ago I bought a 600 Katana because I thought thats what I could handle, and days later ended up using my boys 1000 and was addicted to it and didn't even want to use my own bike. Now, that I have a 1000, it's no way I could go back down. It's also about limitations...if you want a smaller bike, just know you won't pick up just as much as a bigger bike, which for some may be cool. Anyway 600 or 1000 is about the norm, not to say just because you are a female or may be smaller or whatever the case, that you can't get a 1300. _________________ I don't bite...unless you want me too. |

I have a 750 gsx-r and it has plenty of power for me. I'm a little under 200lbs. Depending on how much you weigh, and how well you can handle a bike influences what size you should start with. A 750 gsx-r is more than enough for most starters.
